Challenges met and solutions found
Making the app attractive
At first, the app only contained lists and forms, and most users told us they found it sad and lacking in color. When users downloaded the app, they were shown an empty screen, so I came up with the idea of adiing an illustration. My partner told me that the illustration would look better if it were animated, so I learned to use Lottie to animate it.
Staying on course
Our initial pain point was the use of a notebook to record points when playing dominoes. So we created an app that serves as a tool for the user. When we were brainstorming, we tended to propose features that gamified the app, so we were moving away from our initial position. To avoid this, we focused on suggestions from users, who wanted useful features.
Sorting out feedback to stay on track
We received a lot of feedback from users who wanted to use the app to keep score when playing cards. We decided that even though this concerned several users, we wouldn't take this feedback into account, as it didn't correspond to the persona of a regular player who prefers dominoes to cards. We also received feedback from users who played with rules other than the country's official rules. To sort out this feedback, we tried to understand why they were changing the rules, and the answers were often the same: they change the total ending because there are some bad losers who want to continue the game. So we decided to adi the edit total ending feature.
Creating a unique design for IOS and Android
On Android, the main button is floating in the bottom right-hand corner. On iOS, it is at the top right of the navigation bar. We've chosen the IOS option and limited the number of primary buttons on a page so that it stands out and Android users don't get lost. On IOS, the done button on the keyboard is very conspicuous, but on Android it isn't, so we adied a done button to several forms to make it easy to find.
Statistics functionality not just for geeks like us
I started by brainstorming with my game partners, who are into data, so we obviously wanted to have lots of data, so that we could compare them with each other... When we did an initial usability test, we realized that it wasn't at all accessible to the majority of users, so we simplified it a first time, then a second time until it was clear to our persona.
